Douglas Harding (1909–2007) began asking the question ‘Who am I?’ as a young man. Rejecting his father’s fundamentalist religion he decided to put aside what he’d been told about himself and look for himself at his identity. Harding made an astonishing discovery – his body was not just his human frame but was a many-levelled system ranging from the most distant galaxy to the nearest particle. At the centre of this all-inclusive onion-like structure Harding found his True Self, the formless Reality behind all his appearances.
Harding wrote many books about ‘who we really are’, exploring its profound implications in our lives and its connection with the core message of the world’s great religions. He also invented experiments that point directly to the ‘headless’ Reality at our centre. Harding’s work is a paradigm shift, a leap into a profoundly new way of seeing ourselves.
This graphic biography reveals who this great man was and what he discovered.

The Man With No Head The life and ideas of Douglas Harding eBook Richard Lang Victor LunnRockliffe Reviews
I absolutely loved this book! The time and effort it must have taken to sort through so much information and bring it down to the beautiful story that was created about Douglas Harding's life and legacy. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and look forward to reading through it again. And, I will definitely share it with others. Thank you very much, Richard for all that you do in bringing awareness to all and keeping Harding's work alive.
Douglas Harding is a fascinating personality who devoted his life to helping others wake up. Richard Lang and Victor Lunn-Rockliffe have done an excellent job of documenting (and illustrating) the life and work of Mr Harding. I have read a number of Mr Hardings books and materials by Richard and David Lang. This graphic novel incorporates key information that will help the general reader understand how Mr Harding developed his ideas, exercises he taught to access headlessness and the devotion the man had to generously and selflessly sharing his insights with others. I would recommend this book to all those who want to know more about Douglas Harding and his philosophy. He was truly a western mystic.
This GRAPHIC book by Richard Lang and Victor Lunn-Rockliffe is a wonderful addition to the many books on the Headless Way. It is a GRAPHIC documentary about the life and ideas of Douglas Harding, a man who gave the world clear and simple ways of SEEING who we truly are -- headless capacity for the world. I’ve read a few of Harding’s books. But this one makes me feel closer to the man himself. Douglas was fond of ‘diagrams’ to illustrate some of his ideas. I can see why. Words about SEEING are not SEEING. Diagrams, drawings and practical experiments help us ‘get it’. That’s what makes this present book so powerful. The GRAPHIC format provides an intimate, emotional connection between the reader and Douglas’s life/ideas.
It was really good. It was smooth, easy, and I learned more about Douglas Harding than I had known previously. His struggles, his dedication to what became his life work was very inspiring. It was quite pricey, but since I am already on my third reading I am sure going to get full value. To watch his theories develop step by step allowed me to go with him on his journey.
My thanks for the beautiful art work that made it all come together.
The biography's subject, Douglas Edison Harding (1909-2007), was a successful architect by profession but a mystic and metaphysical philosopher by temperament. He put his well-developed drafting and diagrammatic skills to use in analyzing conventional assumptions about identity and in exploring alternatives, following out ones that are enshrined in philosophical and spiritual traditions and developing novel ones as well. His main and very likely lasting contribution is a method of inquiry so simple that nearly everyone could try it on their own or in cooperation with others, see the point as it becomes obvious, and then decide whether or not it is sufficiently interesting to be worth practicing. Harding's method has affinities with others, including those of therapists such as Eric Berne and Milton Erickson, some modern communication theorists, and at the center of many meditation traditions (as was pointed out by Sam Harris in his recent book Waking Up A Guide to Spirituality Without Religion). A merit of the graphic novel approach to his life and work is that in considerable measure it can convey to the reader/observer what Harding found, how he came to it, and why he valued it. Readers may be in the midst of enjoying or suffering from a quite different kind of life than Harding’s, and yet will likely find that they are really at no distance from what he discovered.
The authors of this book are communicating Douglas Harding’s work in a brilliant fashion. I almost feel like I am cheating reading this book. It’s like reading a “Classics Illustrated” comic book, but in its’ simplicity and non-confrontational presentation, this book lays out truths of Seeing so profound it is not equaled by anything else I have read or studied. I cannot recommend a book more fervently, and this would be the one book I would want if I could only have One.
I've spent over thirty years reading spiritual books, attending workshops, sitting on cushions, and listening to others whom I thought had the answers. This book is honestly the last book ever needed for one's search. The book is filled with colorful illustrations, simple experiments, and the tale of a seer named Douglass Harding. The best part of the book was reading it with my 11-year-old daughter who enjoyed it as much as me and doing the experiments with her as we cuddled before bed. The artwork pulls kids, and adults, in and makes it so clear in answering the age-old question, "Who am I." Get this book and do the experiments by yourself or with your kids and watch the magic.Incredibly simple.
